Where you fit in -
In Fuels and Lubricants Technology, we work on many different projects across a range of timeframes. We develop and deploy today’s advanced products (such as Shell V-Power, Pennzoil, Rotella, Tellus and more) and work on longer-term research in alternative energies, sustainability, and e-mobility. Fuels and Lubricants Technology is one of the most exciting places to work in Shell, especially as we adapt to evolving customer needs in a dynamic external environment.
E-mobility is an area of particular focus and growth for Shell, ranging across Thermal Fluids, Transmission Fluids and Greases for a variety of applications. Advanced fluid development and working on collaborative innovation programs with our OEM partners are key to unlocking future benefit for our customers.
What's the role -
The Project Leader for E-Mobility Innovation & Development will deliver a range of exciting e-mobility projects, with a particular focus on creating end-to-end value by collaborating across multiple teams and functions.
Candidates are sought with a strong background in project and stakeholder management, good communication and analysis skills, and the ability to turn complex, multi-dimensional problems into well-defined projects.
Accountabilities:
The Project Leader for E-Mobility Innovation & Development role has following responsibilities:
Product Development: develop new Thermal Fluids and Transmission E-Fluids and demonstrate their performance benefits as part of an extended, global fluid development team. Innovation & Co-Engineering: Work closely with business and technology stakeholders to define, manage and stage-gate specific innovation projects in e-mobility as part of the Lubricants Discovery Hub, a dedicated innovation team with a 5–10-year time horizon. This work will have a particular emphasis on collaborative co-engineering with traditional and emerging equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the e-mobility space. Technical Project Management: Deliver the above projects on time, on-scope and on-budget, driving alignment with technology, business and 3rd party stakeholders. External Focus & Collaboration: Support future business direction by maintaining and communicating awareness of external technology trends. Contribute to external conferences and facilitate technical discussions in customer meetings or events. Effectively communicate technical work and industry trends information with key business and customer stakeholders.
In addition:
Drive the integration of experimental and data analysis activities
Present research internally and at conferences, to provide regular updates/reports, author internal Shell reports and scientific papers
Develop contacts and research collaborations within the department and wider external community to further the project aims
Provide e-mobility expertise in co-engineering with research partners
Identify and propose new research projects to leadership, shaping the team’s program in the areas of e-mobility
Dimensions:
Responsible for managing specific projects in the portfolio and for interactions with relevant third parties. Responsible for leading diverse global technical projects as part of the extended Lubricants Discovery Hub and E-mobility development teams within a high-impact global technical community.
Additional Information:
The Lubricants Discovery Hub delivers to a successful and expanding business with diverse applications and customer needs. As a result, the team is responsible for supporting a range of fundamental and next generation products and services. Effective collaboration, stakeholder management, ability to evaluate and prioritize requests, and ability to consult and quickly define project direction to meet business needs are key to success. Additionally, front-end innovation programs may require greater risk-taking and consideration of different ideas, many of which will and should fail.
Skills & Requirements
What we need from you -
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Expertise in E-mobility: Bring relevant domain knowledge in e-mobility. Candidates with limited experience must bring passion for the subject and willingness to quickly build up their expertise
Educational Background: Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or a related technical discipline (advanced degree preferred)
Experience: 3-5 year track record in the industry, with knowledge of or experience in the following: e-fluid formulation, e-vehicle design and performance evaluation. Knowledge of battery thermal management, hardware testing (battery, driveline or vehicle level), finished lubricant or fuel chemistry, lubricant field application, tribology, rheology, colloid science or life-cycle analysis. Strong background or aptitude for numerical analysis
Passion for technology innovation: natural curiosity about how things work and how they can be improved. Experienced in designing and executing research projects, confident in handling large data sets. Knowledge of managing intellectual property
Collaboration and commercial mindset: strong record of cross-team collaboration and in interfacing with business and external partners (e.g. customers/OEMs, test houses, universities, etc.). Ability to tailor research projects to meet commercial objectives
Self-starting: highly motivated, able to take the initiative and deliver project output independently
